THE SIXTH FORM CONSORTIUM
The Sixth forms at Baylis Court School and Herschel Grammar School have worked together for a decade to offer a range of Post 16 courses. In the Consortium, we pride ourselves on offering a supportive and nurturing environment. We ensure that every pupil is offered a high standard of teaching and learning, in conjunction with a variety of extra-curricular activities for pupils to develop their skills.
We aim to:
- Create a community in which the contribution of each individual is valued and celebrated;
- promote life-long learners;
- develop individual responsibility, tolerance and consideration for others;
- foster the ability to work together co-operatively and with an appreciation of group success;
- widen horizons and prepare our students to meet the challenges of the future with confidence;
- build a partnership between school, home and the wider community.
Excellent attendance is an important factor which will enable you to achieve success in the Sixth Form. We have developed a Sixth Form Attendance Requirement which is important for you to read. If you have any questions, please ask.
Work Experience in the Sixth Form
At Baylis Court School Sixth Form we pride ourselves on the vocational opportunities that we provide for our students. We work closely with ‘Learning to Work’ to ensure that all of our pupils are guaranteed a one week work experience placement in the summer term in Year 12. Students undergo an interview process to find out their areas of interest and the skills they need to develop for future employers. Students are then either provided with a tailored placement or have the opportunity of choosing their own.
Leadership – Post 16
We feel it essential that the sixth form play a major role in supporting our whole school community. Every Sixth Former will be given the opportunity to participate in a range of activities that support both younger students and staff, whether that be acting as a Head of Learning Assistant, working once a week in a subject department, being attached to a lower school tutor group or acting as an English Literacy Mentor. Not only do our Sixth Formers enjoy giving something back to the school, but they are able to develop essential leadership skills, and help us to instil our core values of respect, ambition and resilience.
Upon successful completion of several activities each sixth former receives a review from the staff that they have supported.
