WELCOME TO THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
At Baylis Court, Physical Education (PE) develops students' competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school. Students are given the opportunity to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics and compositional ideas to perform successfully.
During Key Stage 3, students can expect challenging and exciting activities that will help to develop their skill base in both games and movement based activities, along with their ability to apply these skills to the game situation and into compositional work. They will also be given coaching and umpiring tasks along the way to help strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of the activity they are covering. Activities include netball, fitness, football, hockey, gymnastics, rounders, cricket and athletics.
During Key Stage 4, students are given an opportunity to continue this knowledge and understanding of the sports covered at Key Stage 3. Additional activities are introduced, these include table tennis, tennis, volley ball, football and tag rugby.
Students in Year 9 can opt to study PE at GCSE examination level (Edexcel).
Extra-Curricular activities are a strong feature of life at Baylis Court. We are proud of our extensive range of both competitive and recreational activities on offer. These take place both during lunchtimes and after school. Details of these clubs can be found in the Extra Curricular section of the website. We regularly take part in fixtures against other school throughout the year in netball, football, cricket, rounders and athletics.
