WELCOME TO THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT BAYLIS COURT SCHOOL.
The primary aim of the Department is to equip all students with reading, writing, speaking and listening skills which they can use for a range of purposes and audiences. We aim to ensure that these skills are transferrable and will ensure success in the worlds of further education and work.
We aim to foster a critical appreciation of literature, theatre and all forms of media. The Department builds in a wide choice of texts at Key Stage 3 so that students can be exposed to a range of post and pre-1914 literature.
We are committed to finding ways to enhance students’ appreciation of English through extra-curricular activities such as:
- Visits from the Globe Players
- Film Club
- Book Club
- Scrabble Club
- Visits to Oxford University
We believe that it is vital that we are good role models for our pupils in our use of written and spoken English. We continually demonstrate our commitment to our pupils’ success by marking promptly and thoroughly, making use of assessment for learning to support students in understanding the assessment requirements for the end of unit assessments as well as external examinations.
